yuvatīnāṁ yathā yūni yūnāṁ ca yuvatau yathā |
yuvatīnāmof young women — whose minds the first half is about genitive pluralयुवतियों का (मन)
yathājust as — opening the comparisonजैसे
yūniin a young man — the one their minds settle on locative, the object delighted inयुवक में (रमता है)
yūnāṁand of young men — the second half now genitive pluralऔर युवकों का (मन)
caand — joining the matching second caseऔर
yuvatauin a young woman — the one their minds settle on locative, the object delighted inयुवती में
yathājust as — the comparison repeated for this halfजैसे
yathā — just as; yuvatīnām — of young women (their mind, from the next line); yūni — in a young man; ca — and; yathā — just as; yūnām — of young men (their mind); yuvatau — in a young woman
Just as the minds of young women run to a young man. And just as the minds of young men run to a young woman. This line sets up the everyday picture: a mind that is drawn, on its own, helplessly, to the one it loves. It is only the example half of the prayer; the point it is heading for comes in the next line. The mapping: the young lovers stand for the devotee; their beloved stands for Kṛṣṇa; the mind's spontaneous, uncoerced pull is the very love the devotee is begging to feel. The comparison holds for that spontaneous pull, and stops there — it does not endorse the objects, only the way the mind is helplessly drawn.
Why cited: Cited from the Padma Purāṇa as the model of samprārthanātmikā bhakti — devotion made of heartfelt entreaty; this line lays out the worldly comparison (the two halves of the analogy) that the prayer will turn toward Kṛṣṇa.
yuvan / yuvati: in ordinary speech simply a young man / young woman of courting age; here they are the two sides of a single analogy for natural, unforced attraction, not a comment on romance itself.
L2citation
mano’bhiramate tadvan mano’bhiramatāṁ tvayi ||
manaḥthe mind — the subject of the example, drawn on its ownमन
abhiramatedelights, takes its pleasure — the natural pull just described present tense, closing the 'just as' of L1(वैसे ही) रमता है
tadvatin that very same way — the hinge from example to prayerउसी प्रकार
manaḥmy mind — now the thing prayed about(मेरा) मन
abhiramatāmlet it delight, may it take its pleasure — the actual request 3rd-person imperative: a prayer, not a statementरम जाए (यह प्रार्थना है, कथन नहीं)
tvayiin you — Kṛṣṇa, the one the mind is begged to be drawn to locative, the object of delightआप में
manaḥ — the mind; abhiramate — delights (in that beloved, completing L1); tadvat — in that same way; manaḥ — my mind; tvayi — in you; abhiramatām — may it delight
The way those minds delight in the one they love — in exactly that way, let my mind delight in You. The first 'manaḥ… abhiramate' finishes the example of L1: the mind delights on its own. Then 'tadvat' swings the whole picture around into a request. 'Abhiramatām' is a prayer-form — not 'my mind does' but 'may my mind do so.' The plea: give me toward You, Kṛṣṇa, the same helpless, spontaneous delight that lovers feel for each other. The analogy proves that such love can be utterly natural and unforced; it stops at the object — the prayer redirects that natural pull from a human beloved to You.
Why cited: Completes the entreaty: it turns the worldly analogy of L1 into a prayer, asking that one's own mind be drawn to Kṛṣṇa with that same spontaneous delight — the pattern-case of samprārthanātmikā (devotion as longing petition).
abhiramate vs abhiramatām: same verb, two moods — the indicative states how ordinary minds already are, the imperative turns it into what the devotee begs to become; the single switch of mood is what makes the verse a prayer (samprārthanā) and not just a simile.
