śaṅke — I suspect; sā — that she; adya — today; niviḍa-krīḍānubandhecchayā — because she craves a bout of dense, unbroken love-play; saṅkulitāntarā — her heart crammed full [with it]
"I suspect," Kṛṣṇa says to himself. Today her heart is crammed full — with the craving for a long, unbroken bout of love-play.
First line of an illustrative verse (Vidagdha-mādhava 6.25, in Kṛṣṇa's own voice), quoted here as the udāharaṇa of kuñjādi-līnatā — 'hiding in a bower and the like,' a mode of concealment within vipralambha. The lead-in reads: atha kuñjādi-līnatā, yathā vidagdha-mādhave.

sā — she; śaśimukhī — the moon-faced one; vañjula-śākhinaḥ — of the vañjula (aśoka) tree; kuñje — in the bower; līnā — hidden; varīvarti — keeps staying
So the moon-faced girl has slipped into the bower of the vañjula — the aśoka — tree, and there she stays, hidden.
vañjula is glossed by both commentators as the aśoka tree; the identification is the hinge of the whole inference that follows.

By the poets' standing convention, the aśoka bursts into bloom at the touch of a beautiful woman's foot. This convention is what makes Kṛṣṇa's whole inference work: an aśoka in flower means a woman's foot has been here.
kavi-samaya: a conventional poetic 'fact' agreed among poets and accepted in verse even when it is not literally true (like the cakravāka pair parting each night). padminī: in the erotic typology the finest class of woman; here simply 'a beautiful woman.'

Hunting for Rādhā, who has hidden herself, Kṛṣṇa reasons the thing out aloud — and that is the verse 'śaṅke.' Viśvanātha thus fixes the speaker as Kṛṣṇa and the setting as their game of hide-and-seek.

This block reproduces Viṣṇudāsa's running gloss. The scene: one autumn Kṛṣṇa is playing hide-and-seek in the forest with Rādhā, and she has hidden. Suddenly he spots an aśoka in bloom — impossibly, out of season. Puzzled but reasoning, he uses arthāpatti — 'this makes no sense unless…' — and concludes she must be inside the bower that tree marks. Then he walks the verse word by word: 'she' is his moon-faced beloved; 'now,' longing for dense secret love-play, her heart flooded, she has slipped into the aśoka's vine-arbour and stays put. The confirmation, 'no ced': otherwise, with no touch of her feet, how — out of season — could this tree become worthy of the praise-song of bees the fragrance has summoned, their sweet drunken humming? It could not. So she is here.
anyathānupapatti (= arthāpatti), 'presumption': a pramāṇa taken from Mīmāṁsā — when a fact is inexplicable except on one supposition, that supposition is thereby established. Kṛṣṇa's out-of-season bloom is explicable only if Rādhā's foot touched the tree, so he presumes she is here. abhūta-tad-bhāve cvi-pratyaya: the grammatical name for the -ī of pātrī-√bhū — a thing 'becoming that (pātra) which it formerly was not.'

Deep in a forest thick with creepers, the two lovers' hiding-place is given away — by bees drunk on the blossoms' scent, and by the birds and beasts drunk on the honey of looking at them. In the bower, through their game of hiding they slip apart most secretly; then, swiftly, guided by the glow of their own bodies — lamps brimming with love — they find each other again.
Why cited: Cited to illustrate kuñjādi-līnatā: like Rādhā in the mūla, the hidden lovers are betrayed by the very creatures the bower draws — the same logic that nature's tell-tale signs (bees at the aśoka) disclose the one who has hidden.
