An udāharaṇa of the 'abbreviated dream' (svapne saṅkṣiptaḥ), named in the lead-in — a form of pūrva-rāga, the love that stirs before the lovers have ever met, here experienced in sleep. Viśvanātha (below) assigns the verse to Śrī Rādhā, still in pūrva-rāga, speaking to her friend Viśākhā. taraṇi-tanayā, 'the sun's daughter,' is a name of the Yamunā (Kālindī).

pūrva-rāgavatī śrī-rādhā — Śrī Rādhā, in pūrva-rāga; viśākhām āha — speaks to Viśākhā; vihāram iti — the 'vihāram' verse.

pūrva-rāga ('prior love') is the technical name for the attachment that arises toward a beloved before any meeting — kindled by hearing of him, seeing a picture, or, as here, a dream. It is a division of vipralambha, love-in-separation.
