An udāharaṇa (illustrative verse), introduced by the unit's lead-in yathā vā— ('or again, as in—'). It depicts the unmāda — the derangement of love-in-separation — that Rādhā falls into from the violent force of parting from Mādhava; the verse names that cause itself in L4.

akāṇde bhavam ākāṇḍikam ||
akāṇdeat a time that is no proper occasion loc.; a-kāṇḍa 'not the [right] moment/occasion'अ-काण्ड में, अनवसर में (सप्तमी)
bhavamthat which arises — 'what happens at [such a time]'होने वाला
ākāṇḍikamhence the mūla word ākāṇḍikam, 'untimely' the word being derived: akāṇḍa + affix → 'occurring at the wrong time''आकाण्डिक' (यही पद सिद्ध किया जा रहा है: अकाण्ड + प्रत्यय → असमय घटित)
akāṇde bhavam — arising at no proper occasion; [iti] ākāṇḍikam — that is what ākāṇḍikam means.
Viśvanātha unpacks the one word ākāṇḍikam: it is built from a-kāṇḍa, 'the wrong moment,' so it means 'what breaks out when there is no occasion for it.'
