dampatyoḥ — युगल का; bhāvaḥ — भाव; ekatra sator api — एक ही स्थान पर साथ होने पर भी; anuraktayoḥ — यद्यपि वे परस्पर अनुरक्त हैं।
Here Rūpa gives the definition of māna. Picture a couple who love each other. Even when they are together in one place, and even though they are drawn to one another, a certain feeling can rise up in them. This first line sets up the who and the when; the second line will say what that feeling does and what it is called.
नायक-नायिका दोनों एक ही स्थान पर साथ हों, और परस्पर अनुरक्त भी हों — फिर भी उन दोनों में जो भाव उठता है।

[saḥ bhāvaḥ] sva-abhīṣṭa-āśleṣa-vīkṣā-ādi-nirodhī — that feeling, the one that blocks their own desired embrace, glance, and so on; mānaḥ ucyate — is called māna
sva-abhīṣṭa-āśleṣa-vīkṣā-ādi-nirodhī — जो उनके अपने अभीष्ट आलिंगन, दर्शन आदि को रोकने वाला है; mānaḥ — मान; ucyate — कहलाता है।
That feeling — the one that gets in the way of the embrace, the loving look, and everything else the two of them actually want — is called māna. So māna is a mood that blocks the very closeness the lovers desire, even though they are together and in love.
वही भाव, जो उन दोनों के अपने चाहे हुए आलिंगन, दर्शन आदि को रोक देता है, मान कहलाता है।
māna: in the rasa-analysis a proud, jealous anger that a lover turns against the beloved, withholding the intimacy both of them want. It is one of the phases (avasthās) of love handled in this prakaraṇa.
मान — रस-विवेचन में वह गर्वयुक्त, ईर्ष्यायुक्त रोष है, जिसे प्रेमी अपने प्रियतम के प्रति धारण कर उस घनिष्ठता को रोक देता है जिसे दोनों ही चाहते हैं। यह इस प्रकरण में वर्णित प्रेम की अवस्थाओं में से एक है।

Jīva restates the heart of the verse: it is the couple's own inner feeling, exactly that, which carries the name māna. The 'eva' keeps our eye on the feeling itself, not on whatever happens to trigger it.
नायक-नायिका का यह भीतरी भाव ही मान नाम से कहा जाता है — कोई बाहरी कारण नहीं।

vibhāva-ādi-saṁvalitatayā — because it is blended with the vibhāvas and the rest; prakṛṣṭa-mādhuryam ced — [it counts] only if it has a heightened sweetness; iti bhāvaḥ — this is the purport
vibhāva-ādi-saṁvalitatayā — विभाव आदि से मिश्रित होने के कारण; prakṛṣṭa-mādhuryam — उत्कृष्ट माधुर्य; ced — यदि; iti bhāvaḥ — ऐसा अभिप्राय है।
Not every couple's feeling qualifies. Jīva adds a quiet condition: the feeling counts as māna only when, blended with the vibhāvas and the other ingredients of rasa, it takes on a heightened sweetness. That extra sweetness is what he is pointing at — that, he says, is the implied sense.
विभाव आदि से मिल जाने के कारण यह भाव उत्कृष्ट माधुर्य को प्राप्त कर ले — तभी (वह रस-रूप मान होता है); ऐसा अभिप्राय है।
vibhāva: the stimulating causes of a rasa — the beloved, the setting, the provocation. 'ādi' folds in the other components (anubhāvas, sañcāris). Jīva's point: raw anger becomes the relishable māna only once these rasa-elements are mixed into it.
विभाव — किसी रस को उद्दीप्त करने वाले कारण: प्रियतम, स्थल, तथा उकसावा। 'आदि' से अनुभाव, संचारी आदि अन्य अंग भी समेट लिए जाते हैं। जीव का आशय — कोरा रोष तभी आस्वाद्य मान बनता है जब उसमें ये रस-सामग्री मिल जाती है।

api-śabdāt pṛthak sthitayor api ||
api-śabdāton the strength of the word 'api' in the verse ablative — the particle 'api' in 'ekatra sator api' is doing the extra work'ekatra sator api' के 'अपि' शब्द से
pṛthak sthitayoḥ api[the definition reaches] even the two when they are standing apart genitive dual; the second 'api' extends the reach beyond 'together in one place'पृथक् (अलग-अलग) स्थित दोनों का भी
api-śabdāt — on the strength of the word 'api'; pṛthak sthitayoḥ api — [māna arises] even for the two when they are standing apart
api-śabdāt — 'अपि' शब्द से; pṛthak sthitayoḥ api — पृथक् स्थित दोनों का भी।
The verse's small word 'api' (even) does more than it seems. Jīva reads it as stretching the definition past 'together in one place': māna can grip the couple even when they are standing apart. So māna is not only a together-mood — separation can carry it too.
'अपि' शब्द के बल से यह भी सिद्ध होता है कि जब दोनों अलग-अलग स्थित हों, तब भी (उनमें मान हो सकता है)।

Jīva now quotes Viśvanātha, who decodes the verse word by word. First the core: a feeling whose very nature is to block the couple's own longed-for embrace, glance, and the rest — that feeling, a special sort of anger, is called māna, and it earns the name because it is blended with the vibhāvas and the other rasa-ingredients. Then he settles three words. 'Dampati' (couple): in rasa-śāstra it means any man and woman at all, not only a married pair — even for lovers outside marriage the word fits, just as we freely use labels like svādhīna-bhartṛkā, 'the heroine who keeps her lover in hand.' 'Abhīṣṭa' (desired): this word rules out blocks that come not from māna but from circumstance — being at a temple, keeping a vow, the wrong place or time, sleep, laziness. In those states the embrace simply is not wanted — sometimes by her, sometimes by him, sometimes by both — so that blocking is no māna at all. And the 'api' in 'even while together in one place' stretches māna to reach the couple even when they are standing apart.
Why cited: Adduced to unpack the definition's key words — that 'dampati' covers any lovers, married or not; that 'desired' (abhīṣṭa) excludes an embrace blocked by circumstance (temple, vow, wrong time, sleep) rather than by māna; and that 'api' extends māna to lovers who are apart.
Viśvanātha = Viśvanātha Cakravartī. svādhīna-bhartṛkā is a standard nāyikā-type, literally 'she who has her husband under her sway' — cited to show that rasa-śāstra applies married-sounding labels to unwed lovers too, so calling them 'dampati' is no misuse. aupapatya = a paramour (lover) relationship, as opposed to a wedded one.
