This udāharaṇa illustrates pūrva-rāga, the love that kindles before the lovers have ever met (so Jīva marks it: 'atra pūrva-rāge'). It is spoken from the mouth of the messenger (dūtī): Viśvanātha names her Vṛndā, addressing Kṛṣṇa.

pūrva-rāgethe mood shown falls under pūrva-rāga — the love that arises before the lovers have met loc. of placement: 'the case belongs under pūrva-rāga'पूर्व-राग में (यह दृष्टान्त आता है)
atra — here; pūrva-rāge — [this belongs] under pūrva-rāga.
Jīva places the verse: here the mood is pūrva-rāga — love felt before the lovers ever meet.
pūrva-rāga: in Rūpa's scheme a division of vipralambha (love-in-separation) — the attraction that swells before any meeting, kindled just by hearing of the beloved or seeing a likeness. Tārāvalī's being overwhelmed at merely hearing Kṛṣṇa's topic is exactly its mark.
