The verse — decoded
L1definition
preṣṭhasya suhṛdāloke gūḍha-roṣābhijṛmbhitaḥ |
preṣṭhasyaof the dearmost one [Kṛṣṇa] genitive attaching to suhṛd — 'the beloved's friend', not just 'a beloved'प्रियतम (कृष्ण) के — यह षष्ठी 'सुहृद्' से जुड़ती है, अर्थात् प्रियतम के सखा का
suhṛd-ālokewhen a friend [of his] comes into sight locative of occasion — 'at the moment of seeing'; suhṛd = the friend/messenger who arrivesजब सुहृद् (सखा या दूत) दिखाई देता है, उस समय
gūḍha-roṣa-abhijṛmbhitaḥbursting out with a hidden anger gūḍha = concealed; roṣa = anger; abhijṛmbhita = made to swell up, break forth — qualifies jalpaḥछिपे हुए (गूढ़) क्रोध से जो उमड़ पड़ा — यह 'जल्प' का विशेषण है
preṣṭhasya suhṛd-āloke gūḍha-roṣa-abhijṛmbhitaḥ [jalpaḥ].
preṣṭhasya — प्रियतम कृष्ण के (सखा) का; suhṛd-āloke — सुहृद् के दिखाई देने पर; gūḍha-roṣa-abhijṛmbhitaḥ — छिपे क्रोध से उभर आया (जल्प)।
The lead-in has announced citra-jalpa, 'the wondrous prattle'; these two lines define it. When a friend of her dearmost one comes into view, a concealed anger suddenly breaks forth in her talk. (In the setting behind it, a gopī sees a messenger arriving from the far-off Kṛṣṇa.)
प्रियतम कृष्ण के सखा (दूत) को देखते ही जो गूढ़ (छिपा हुआ) क्रोध उमड़ पड़ता है — ऐसा वह जल्प।
L2definition
bhūri-bhāva-mayo jalpo yas tīvrotkaṇṭhitāntimaḥ ||
bhūri-bhāva-mayaḥmade of many crowding feelings (bhāvas) bhūri = abundant; -maya = 'consisting of'बहुत-से भावों से भरा हुआ ('भूरि' = प्रचुर, '-मय' = से बना हुआ)
jalpaḥthe prattle, the [flood of] talk — the term being defined nominative; this is citra-jalpa itselfजल्प (यही चित्र-जल्प है)
yaḥwhich [talk] relative pronoun gathering L1's descriptions onto jalpaḥजो (उपर्युक्त सारे वर्णन जिस जल्प पर लगते हैं)
tīvra-utkaṇṭhita-antimaḥand ends on a note of intense longing bahuvrīhi: tīvra = intense; utkaṇṭhita = longing; antima = coming last — 'whose final note is fierce longing'जिसका अन्तिम स्वर तीव्र उत्कण्ठा है (बहुव्रीहि: तीव्र = उग्र, उत्कण्ठित = व्याकुल लालसा, अन्तिम = अन्त में आने वाला)
yaḥ jalpaḥ bhūri-bhāva-mayaḥ tīvra-utkaṇṭhita-antimaḥ.
bhūri-bhāva-mayaḥ — बहुत भावों से भरा; jalpaḥ — जल्प; yaḥ — जो; tīvra-utkaṇṭhita-antimaḥ — जिसका अन्त तीव्र उत्कण्ठा में हो।
That same prattle is packed with many feelings all at once, and it closes on a burst of intense longing (utkaṇṭhā). So: it opens in hidden anger, swells with a crowd of moods, and ends in yearning — that is citra-jalpa.
अनेक भावों से भरा हुआ वह जल्प, जिसका अन्त तीव्र उत्कण्ठा में होता है — यही (चित्र-जल्प) है।

preṣṭhasyety eva mahā-viraha-samayatvaṁ prakaraṇād eva labdham |
preṣṭhasya iti evaby the very word 'preṣṭhasya' (of the dearmost) pratīka: the mūla word quoted; eva = 'this word by itself''प्रेष्ठस्य' — यह मूल शब्द उद्धृत है; 'एव' = इसी एक शब्द से
mahā-viraha-samayatvaṁthat this is a time of great separation (mahā-viraha)महान् विरह का समय होना (यह भाव)
prakaraṇāt eva labdhamis gathered from the context itself ablative of source; the second eva — 'the context alone' already yields itप्रकरण से ही प्राप्त हो जाता है (पञ्चमी; दूसरा 'एव' = केवल प्रसंग से ही)
preṣṭhasya iti eva, mahā-viraha-samayatvaṁ prakaraṇāt eva labdham.
preṣṭhasya iti eva — 'प्रेष्ठस्य' इस एक शब्द से ही; mahā-viraha-samayatvaṁ — महाविरह का समय होना; prakaraṇāt eva labdham — प्रकरण से ही मिल जाता है।
Jīva notes that the single word 'preṣṭhasya' — the dearmost — and the surrounding context are enough, on their own, to tell us that this is a moment of great separation. She calls him not just 'dear' but 'dearmost' because he is far away and painfully missed.
'प्रेष्ठस्य' इस एक शब्द से ही यह बात प्रकट हो जाती है कि यह महाविरह का समय है — प्रकरण से ही यह प्राप्त हो जाता है।

antima-padena sarvāntima evocyate ||
antima-padenaby the word 'antima' (final) instrumental — 'by means of this word' in the verse'अन्तिम' शब्द से (तृतीया — इस शब्द के द्वारा)
sarva-antimaḥ evathe very last of them all eva — the absolute final one, not merely a late oneसबसे अन्तिम ही (न कि केवल कोई बाद वाला; 'एव' = ठीक अन्तिम)
ucyateis what is being statedकहा जाता है
antima-padena sarva-antimaḥ eva ucyate.
antima-padena — 'अन्तिम' शब्द से; sarva-antimaḥ eva — सबसे अन्तिम ही; ucyate — कहा जाता है।
By choosing the word 'antima,' final, the verse marks this citra-jalpa as the very last of the whole series — the closing member of them all.
'अन्तिम' शब्द से सबसे अन्तिम ही अभिप्रेत है, केवल कोई बाद वाला नहीं।

utkaṇṭhinyā bhāva utkaṇṭhitā |
utkaṇṭhinyāḥ bhāvaḥthe abstract state of 'utkaṇṭhinī', the longing woman genitive + bhāva: an abstract-noun derivation is being spelled out'उत्कण्ठिनी' का भाव (यहाँ भाववाचक व्युत्पत्ति खोली जा रही है)
utkaṇṭhitāis [the word] 'utkaṇṭhitā', longing-nessउत्कण्ठिता (यही वह भाववाचक रूप है)
utkaṇṭhinyāḥ bhāvaḥ utkaṇṭhitā.
utkaṇṭhinyāḥ bhāvaḥ — 'उत्कण्ठिनी' का भाव; utkaṇṭhitā — उत्कण्ठिता।
Viśvanātha first parses the word. 'Utkaṇṭhitā' is the abstract noun formed from utkaṇṭhinī, 'the one who longs' — that is, the very state of longing.
'उत्कण्ठिनी' के भाव को 'उत्कण्ठिता' कहते हैं।

tīvrā utkaṇṭhitaivāntimā ante bhavā yasmin saḥ |
tīvrāintenseतीव्र (उग्र)
utkaṇṭhitā evathe longing itself eva — the longing precisely, that very thingउत्कण्ठिता ही (ठीक वही उत्कण्ठा; 'एव')
antimābeing the final oneअन्तिमा (जो अन्त में हो)
ante bhavāarising at the end this unpacks 'antima' = 'ante bhava', that which occurs at the endअन्त में होने वाली — यही 'अन्तिम' का अर्थ खोला गया है
yasmin saḥthe [talk] in which this happens — that is it bahuvrīhi resolution: 'he/that in which…'जिसमें (यह हो), वह — (बहुव्रीहि का विग्रह)
tīvrā utkaṇṭhitā eva antimā ante bhavā yasmin, saḥ.
tīvrā — तीव्र; utkaṇṭhitā eva — उत्कण्ठिता ही; antimā — अन्तिमा; ante bhavā — अन्त में होने वाली; yasmin saḥ — जिसमें हो, वह।
Now he resolves the compound tīvra-utkaṇṭhita-antima. It names the talk in which intense longing itself, coming last, arises at the very end. 'Antima' is read as 'ante bhava,' occurring at the end.
तीव्र उत्कण्ठिता ही जिसमें अन्त में विद्यमान हो — 'अन्तिम' अर्थात् अन्त में होने वाली — वह (जल्प तीव्रोत्कण्ठितान्तिम कहलाता है)।

Here Viśvanātha closes with a verse of homage (running into the next line). Vṛṣabhānu's daughter, Rādhā, prattled this wondrous citra-jalpa; and it was Śrī Śukadeva alone who set it down in words.
वृषभानुनन्दिनी (राधा) आश्चर्यजनक रूप से बड़बड़ाईं — यहाँ 'चित्रम्' शब्द 'अद्भुत ढंग से' और 'चित्र-जल्प' नाम, दोनों को साधता है (श्लेष) — और इस सबका वर्णन श्रीशुकदेव ने ही किया।
This line and the next form Viśvanātha's own concluding verse of praise to Śukadeva, the reciter of the Bhāgavata, not a quotation from elsewhere.
यह पंक्ति और अगली पंक्ति भागवत के वक्ता श्रीशुकदेव की स्तुति में विश्वनाथ का अपना समापन-श्लोक है, कहीं से उद्धृत वचन नहीं।
