svīyā-jātīya-bhāvena iti — the word to unpack; svīyānāṁ jātiḥ prakāraḥ — the type of the wife-consorts; tasya hita-anukūlaḥ bhāvaḥ — the mood beneficial to that type; tena — by that; iti eva vyākhyeyam — thus alone explain it.
'स्वीया-जातीय-भाव' का अर्थ — स्वकीयों की जो जाति अर्थात् प्रकार है, उस प्रकार के हित के अनुकूल जो भाव है, उससे; इसी प्रकार ही व्याख्या करनी चाहिए।
Jīva says: unpack svīyā-jātīya-bhāvena like this. 'svīyā-jāti' is the type or manner of the svīyās — the wife-type consorts. The 'jātīya' (jāti plus the affix īya) then means the mood that suits and benefits that type. So the whole says 'by that mood.' This, he insists, is the only correct reading.
'स्वीया-जातीय-भाव' को यों समझना चाहिए। स्वकीयों का जो प्रकार है, उसके हित के अनुकूल जो भाव है, उससे। बस यही व्याख्या ठीक है।

tasmai hitam iti anenaand by the rule 'tasmai hitam' [Pā 5.1.5] — 'beneficial to that''तस्मै हितम्' इस (सूत्र) के द्वारा
chasya vidhānātbecause the affix cha (= īya) is prescribed there in exactly that sense ablative of reason — this is why 'beneficial to' is warrantedछ प्रत्यय का विधान होने के कारण
prāk-krītāt cha iti adhikāre — in the section headed by 'prāk krītāt chaḥ'; tasmai hitam iti anena — by the rule 'beneficial to that'; chasya vidhānāt — because the affix cha is prescribed there.
'प्राक्क्रीताच्छः' इस अधिकार में 'तस्मै हितम्' इस सूत्र के द्वारा छ प्रत्यय का विधान होने के कारण (यही अर्थ बनता है)।
Where does the 'beneficial to' sense come from? Jīva grounds it in Pāṇini. Within the section that begins 'prāk krītāt chaḥ,' the rule 'tasmai hitam' — 'beneficial to that' — prescribes the affix cha (which is īya) in that very sense. So the īya of jātīya legitimately carries 'beneficial to.'
पाणिनि के 'प्राक्क्रीताच्छः' अधिकार में 'तस्मै हितम्' सूत्र से यहाँ छ (= ईय) प्रत्यय का विधान हुआ है। इसी से 'उसके हित के अनुकूल' अर्थ सिद्ध होता है।
Why cited: grammatical warrant that the affix īya (cha) here means 'beneficial to' — so jātīya = beneficial to the class of the svīyās.
क्यों उद्धृत: यह व्याकरण-प्रमाण इसलिए दिया गया कि 'ईय' प्रत्यय यहाँ 'उसके हित के लिए' — इसी अर्थ में आया है।

na tu jātīya-pratyayāntatvena vyākhyeyam |
na tubut not this way tu — rejecting the rival parseकिन्तु ऐसा नहीं (यहाँ प्रतिद्वन्द्वी अन्वय का निषेध)
jātīya-pratyaya-antatvenaby treating the word as ending in the ready-made affix 'jātīya' (the one meaning 'of such a type,' as in paṭu-jātīya)'जातीय' नामक प्रत्यय के अन्त में होने के रूप में
vyākhyeyamshould it be explainedव्याख्या करनी चाहिए
na tu — but not; jātīya-pratyaya-antatvena — as ending in the affix jātīya; vyākhyeyam — should it be explained.
किन्तु ('जातीय' को) 'जातीय' प्रत्यय के अन्त में मानकर व्याख्या नहीं करनी चाहिए।
Jīva blocks the obvious alternative. Do not explain the word as if it ended in the off-the-shelf affix jātīya — the affix that means 'of such-and-such a type,' as in paṭu-jātīya, 'of the clever sort.' That parse is wrong here, and the next line says why.
यह नहीं मानना चाहिए कि इसमें 'जातीय' नामक प्रत्यय अन्त में लगा है। वैसी व्याख्या ठीक नहीं।

puṁvat karmadhāraya-jātīya-deśīyeṣu itiby the rule 'puṁvat karmadhāraya-jātīya-deśīyeṣu' [Pā 6.3.42] — a feminine stem takes its masculine form in a karmadhāraya and before the affixes jātīya and deśīya'पुंवत्कर्मधारय-जातीय-देशीयेषु' इस सूत्र से
puṁvattva-prāpteḥbecause on that parse the masculine form would be forced — 'svīyā' would collapse to 'svīya,' losing its long ā ablative of reason — the fatal consequenceपुंवद्भाव की प्राप्ति हो जाने के कारण — यही घातक परिणाम है
puṁvat karmadhāraya-jātīya-deśīyeṣu iti — by the rule that forces the masculine form before jātīya; puṁvattva-prāpteḥ — because the masculine form would then result.
क्योंकि 'पुंवत्कर्मधारय-जातीय-देशीयेषु' इस सूत्र से पुंवद्भाव की प्राप्ति हो जाएगी।
Here is why that parse fails. The rule 'puṁvat karmadhāraya-jātīya-deśīyeṣu' says a feminine stem standing before the affix jātīya must take the masculine form. So if jātīya here were that affix, 'svīyā' would be dragged down to 'svīya,' dropping its long ā. But the text plainly reads 'svīyā-.' Therefore it cannot be the jātīya affix; it has to be jāti plus īya.
यदि 'जातीय' प्रत्यय मानें, तो 'पुंवत्कर्मधारय-जातीय-देशीयेषु' सूत्र से पुंवद्भाव प्राप्त हो जाएगा। यह अनिष्ट है, इसलिए वह व्याख्या छोड़नी पड़ती है।
Why cited: the sūtra forcing puṁvad-bhāva before the jātīya affix — proof that the affix parse would wrongly yield 'svīya' (masc.) rather than the attested 'svīyā'.
क्यों उद्धृत: यह सूत्र इसलिए उद्धृत किया कि 'जातीय'-प्रत्यय वाली व्याख्या मानने पर अनिष्ट पुंवद्भाव प्राप्त हो जाता है।

svīyā-jātīya-bhāvena svīyā-jātīyatvena |
svīyā-jātīya-bhāvenathe compound svīyā-jātīya-bhāvena'स्वीया-जातीय-भाव' (यह पद)
svīyā-jātīyatvenasimply means 'by being of the svīyā-jātīya kind' — reading bhāva as the bare state-of-being (-tva) bhāva glossed by the abstract -tva, not as 'mood'स्वीया-जातीयत्व से — अर्थात् स्वकीय वर्ग का होना; 'भाव' यहाँ भाववाचक 'त्व' के अर्थ में, न कि मनोभाव के अर्थ में
svīyā-jātīya-bhāvena — the compound; svīyā-jātīyatvena — means 'by being of the wife-consort type.'
'स्वीया-जातीय-भाव' का अर्थ है स्वीया-जातीयत्व — अर्थात् स्वकीय वर्ग का होना।
Viśvanātha reads it far more plainly. svīyā-jātīya-bhāvena just means svīyā-jātīyatvena — 'by being of the wife-consort type.' He takes bhāva as the plain 'state of being,' the bare -tva, not as a favorable 'mood' the way Jīva did.
विश्वनाथ यहाँ 'भाव' को मनोभाव नहीं, भाववाचक 'त्व' के अर्थ में लेते हैं। तो 'स्वीया-जातीय-भाव' का अर्थ हुआ स्वीया-जातीयत्व — स्वकीय वर्ग का होना।
The two commentators diverge here and are left unharmonized. Jīva took bhāva as a 'mood favorable to the class' and the īya as carrying 'beneficial to'; Viśvanātha takes bhāva as mere 'being-of-that-type' and (next segment) the īya as adding nothing.

jāti-antāt chaḥ bandhuni iti — by the rule adding cha after a jāti-ending word; svārthikaḥ chaḥ — the cha here is svārthika, adding nothing.
'जात्यन्ताच्छो बन्धुनि' [पा. 5.4.9] इस सूत्र से यहाँ छ प्रत्यय स्वार्थिक है।
And the affix itself? Viśvanātha cites 'jāty-antāc cho bandhuni' — a cha attaches after a word ending in jāti — and calls this cha svārthika: added in its own sense, contributing no extra meaning. So the īya of jātīya is empty, and svīyā-jātīya just means the svīyā-jāti kind. Note how sharply this differs from Jīva, who loaded the same īya with the sense 'beneficial to.'
'जात्यन्ताच्छो बन्धुनि' [पा. 5.4.9] सूत्र से यहाँ छ (= ईय) प्रत्यय स्वार्थिक है। वह अपने ही अर्थ में लगा है, कोई नया अर्थ नहीं जोड़ता।
Why cited: the sūtra by which the īya (cha) after 'jāti' is svārthika — grounding Viśvanātha's reading that the affix adds nothing, so svīyā-jātīya = simply the svīyā-jāti type (against Jīva's 'beneficial-to' sense).
क्यों उद्धृत: यह सूत्र इसलिए उद्धृत किया कि छ प्रत्यय स्वार्थिक है — इसीलिए 'भाव' को स्वीया-जातीयत्व मात्र समझना चाहिए।
