īpsitaḥ śakya-prāptiḥ arthaḥ'īpsita' is an object whose attainment is feasible — a within-reach thing'ईप्सित' का अर्थ है — जो प्राप्त किया जा सके (सम्भव प्राप्ति) ऐसी वस्तु
anyaḥ manorathaḥthe manoratha (the wish) is a different thing — a longing beyond reach'मनोरथ' इससे भिन्न है (जो केवल कामना में हो)
tayoḥ prāptiḥand the 'avāpti' is the attaining of the twoउन दोनों की प्राप्ति (यहाँ विभाव है)
divyāḥ gandharva-ādayaḥ — 'divya' = gandharvas etc.; īpsitaḥ śakya-prāptiḥ arthaḥ — 'īpsita' = a feasibly attainable object; anyaḥ manorathaḥ — 'manoratha' = another, a mere wish; tayoḥ prāptiḥ — [avāpti =] the attaining of both.
divyāḥ gandharva-ādayaḥ — दिव्य अर्थात् गन्धर्व आदि; īpsitaḥ śakya-prāptiḥ arthaḥ — ईप्सित वह जो प्राप्य हो; anyaḥ manorathaḥ — मनोरथ भिन्न; tayoḥ prāptiḥ — उन दोनों की प्राप्ति।
'Divya beings' means gandharvas and such. Abhinava splits the next compound into two things. The īpsita is a desired object one could actually reach. The manoratha is something else — a wish, a daydream one does not expect to reach. The avāpti, the 'attaining', covers the getting of either.
'दिव्य' से गन्धर्व आदि लिए जाते हैं। 'ईप्सित' वह अर्थ है जिसकी प्राप्ति सम्भव हो। 'मनोरथ' इससे भिन्न है (जो केवल कामना का विषय हो)। यहाँ इन दोनों की प्राप्ति विभाव है।
The distinction is between what is within reach (īpsita) and what is only wished for (manoratha): both, once attained, stir wonder, but the manoratha's attainment is the more marvellous because it was not expected to be reachable.
भेद यह है — ईप्सित वह है जो पहुँच के भीतर हो, और मनोरथ वह जो केवल कामना में हो: प्राप्त होने पर दोनों विस्मय जगाते हैं, परन्तु मनोरथ की प्राप्ति अधिक अद्भुत है, क्योंकि उसकी प्राप्ति की आशा ही नहीं थी।

'Going' means going to a garden or a temple. Why does that count as a vibhāva of wonder? Because the pool, the layout and so on found in such places are like nothing one has ever seen. And 'sabhā' is a special kind of hall.
उपवन और देवमन्दिर में जाना — यह अद्भुत का विभाव इसलिए है कि वहाँ का सरोवर, रचना आदि पहले कहीं देखा नहीं गया होता। 'सभा' एक विशेष प्रकार का भवन है।

'Cela-aṅguli-bhramaṇa' is the whirling about of the garment's edge and of the finger. And 'atiśaya' — the word coming up in the āryā — is from 'atiśete', 'it goes beyond'; so it means a surpassing quality.

Abhinava unpacks the ārya's terms (P-adbhuta.5-6). 'Extraordinary meaning' (atiśaya-artha) is a meaning that stands out above all others. A 'statement' with such meaning is one that carries that outstanding sense as what it says. And 'craft that is karma-rūpa' means work that is praiseworthy — for by the grammarians' rule 'rūpa in the sense of praise,' the ending -rūpa marks the work as fine. All such — statement, craft, deed — are the vibhāvas of adbhuta.
यहाँ वही अर्थ अभिप्रेत है जो दूसरी वस्तुओं की अपेक्षा उत्कृष्ट हो। ऐसे अतिशय अर्थ से युक्त जो वाक्य हो, तथा जो शिल्प प्रशस्त कर्मस्वरूप हो — ये अद्भुत के विभाव हैं। 'कर्मरूप' में जो 'रूप' है, वह 'प्रशंसायां रूपम्' सूत्र के अनुसार प्रशंसा के अर्थ में है।

svabhāva-anusāritvāt vākyasya — because the speech conforms to nature; dharma-upaghāta-jaḥ (karuṇaḥ) uttamānām api śobhana-hetutvāt — the karuṇa born of harm to dharma [is listed], since it is a becoming cause even for the high-born.
svabhāva-anusāritvāt vākyasya — वाक्य के स्वभाव का अनुसरण करने के कारण; dharma-upaghāta-jaḥ — धर्म के उपघात से उत्पन्न करुण; uttamānām api śobhana-hetutvāt — क्योंकि वह उत्तम पुरुषों के लिए भी शोभन का हेतु है।
Why 'natural'? Because the speech conforms to the speaker's own nature. — Now to karuṇa (v78). The karuṇa born of injury to dharma is listed because grief over dharma is a fitting, honorable cause of sorrow even in noble characters — where grief over mere lost wealth (as Abhinava held in the karuṇa section) befits only lower natures.

By the word śoka (in v78) is meant the death of one's own kin and the like. So the three 'kinds' of karuṇa — from injured dharma, lost wealth, and grief — are really its three vibhāvas.

The word dharma here means ritual acts, like the Agniṣṭoma sacrifice. So injury to such rites is a cause (vibhāva) of grief; the sacrificing itself is not, as a rule, an acted effect (anubhāva).
'धर्म' शब्द से अग्निष्टोम आदि (यज्ञ) क्रियाएँ अभिप्रेत हैं। इसीलिए यह यजन आदि नियम से अनुभावरूप नहीं है (अपितु विभावरूप है)।
A vibhāva is a cause that raises the emotion; an anubhāva is the outward effect the actor enacts. Ritual acts here belong on the cause side, not the enacted-sign side.
विभाव वह कारण है जो भाव को उभारता है; अनुभाव वह बाह्य कार्य है जिसका अभिनेता अभिनय करता है। यहाँ यज्ञादि क्रियाएँ कारण (विभाव) के पक्ष में हैं, अभिनीत चिह्न (अनुभाव) के पक्ष में नहीं।

That filth-born disgust is called 'impure' because the very thing that rouses it is impure. Now Abhinava's teacher, the Upādhyāya, steps in with his own count. Bībhatsa, disgust, he says, is to begin with two-fold — sorted by the kind of thing that stirs it (blood and entrails on one side, filth on the other). The word 'to begin with' quietly promises a further kind to come.

But there is disgust of another order. Picture worldly life, saṁsāra, as a play, and its leading man as rāga, passion. Disgust turned on the flesh — one's own body — is the antidote that works against that hero. Because it opposes passion, it becomes a means to liberation, mokṣa. THAT, the teacher says, is the truly 'pure' bībhatsa.

Hold the word śuddha, 'pure', up to the light. At s30 the pure disgust was the blood-born kṣobhaja — pure because it simply agitates. Here the Upādhyāya reserves 'pure' for the liberation-serving disgust instead. The two uses are left standing side by side, not reconciled.

He props this up with scripture — two Yoga-sūtras of Patañjali. First: disgust for one's own body is itself a fruit of practice (Yogasūtra 2.40; its received reading is 'from purity, śaucāt, comes disgust for one's own body'). Second: 'when harmful urges obstruct you, cultivate their opposite' (Yogasūtra 2.33) — this is precisely the pratipakṣa, the antidote, named a moment ago. So bodily disgust and antidote-cultivation are recognized limbs of the path.
इसी को (योगसूत्रकार) कहते हैं — 'शौच से अपने ही अंगों के प्रति जुगुप्सा उत्पन्न होती है' (यहाँ पाठ 'शोकात्' है, मूल में 'शौचात्'), तथा 'हिंसादि वितर्कों के बाधित होने पर प्रतिपक्ष की भावना करनी चाहिए'। ये दोनों वचन योगसूत्र (2.40 तथा 2.33) से हैं।
Why cited: Adduced from Patañjali's Yoga-sūtras to prove that disgust for one's own body and cultivating the antidote (pratipakṣa) to harmful impulses are established means on the road to liberation — grounding the teacher's 'pure', mokṣa-serving bībhatsa.

So, on the teacher's showing, bībhatsa is really three-fold, not two — even though Bharata's verse names only two. Why did Bharata stop at two? Look at his word for the udvegī type: 'the second one', dvitīyaka. By that very wording, Abhinava says, Bharata quietly signals that the third, liberation-serving kind is rare — hard to attain, and so not counted among the common types. Then he turns to the next word, 'divya', on the marvellous rasa.
इसलिए वह बीभत्स भी वस्तुतः तीन ही प्रकार का है। 'द्वितीयक' इस पद के द्वारा, उस (दुर्लभ) प्रकार के दुर्लभ होने के कारण उसकी अल्पता सूचित होती है। अब 'दिव्य' पद की व्याख्या के लिए (कहते हैं)।

yatra sabhā-vimānādayaḥ anubhāvāḥ — where hall, aerial car and the rest are the manifest signs [there is the divya kind]; ānandayati iti ānandaḥ — 'ānanda' because it gladdens; manoratha-avāpti-ādiḥ — [that gladness being] the winning of one's wish and so on.

The 'divine' marvel, divya, is the one whose signs are a heavenly assembly-hall, aerial chariots and such. And 'ānanda', gladness — the word is built from 'it gladdens', ānandayati. What is this gladness? Getting what one's heart was set on, manoratha, and things of that kind.
(दिव्य वह है) जहाँ सभा, विमान आदि अनुभाव होते हैं। 'जो आनन्दित करता है वह आनन्द' — यह आनन्द शब्द की व्युत्पत्ति है। यह आनन्द मनोरथ की प्राप्ति आदि रूप होता है।
The section's opening prose (P-adbhuta.2) listed sabhā and vimāna among the vibhāvas, the rousing causes; here they are named anubhāvas, the outward signs. Decode as printed — the same items are being read on the manifesting side.
प्रकरण के आरम्भिक गद्य (P-adbhuta.2) में सभा और विमान विभावों (उद्दीपक कारणों) में गिनाए गए थे; यहाँ उन्हें अनुभाव (बाह्य चिह्न) कहा गया है। जैसा छपा है वैसा ही समझें — वही वस्तुएँ अब प्रकट होने वाले पक्ष पर पढ़ी जा रही हैं।

And 'harṣa', joy: the very same gladness, because it makes one rejoice, harṣayati, earns the name harṣa. Now a grammatical point with teeth. Run back through the verses from 'śṛṅgāram' on — they are studded with the little word 'ca', 'and'. Why so many? Each 'ca' is there to head off the worry that the vibhāvas and anubhāvas listed are the ONLY ones. The 'ca' keeps the lists open.
वही (आनन्द) हर्षित करता है, इसलिए 'हर्ष' कहलाता है। और इन 'शृङ्गारम्' इत्यादि श्लोकों में जो 'च' शब्द हैं, वे इसलिए हैं कि कहीं अन्य विभावों और अनुभावों के निकाल दिए जाने की आशंका न रहे — उसे दूर करने के लिए।

The word 'eva', 'just, precisely', does the opposite job. Where 'ca' threw the list open, 'eva' closes in on the core: it marks that just these named factors, this many, are the principal ones. So the two particles work as a pair — 'eva' points to the main factors, 'ca' leaves room for the rest.
और जो 'एव' शब्द हैं, वे यह दिखाने के लिए हैं कि 'इतने ही भेद मुख्य रूप से (उन रसों के साथ) संगत हैं'।

And the word 'tathā', 'likewise'? It invites you to fill in the vibhāvas and the rest that the verse never spelled out — to supply them by inference. Apply each 'tathā' wherever it best fits. So three small particles, three jobs: 'ca' opens the list, 'eva' marks the core, 'tathā' tells you to supply the unstated.
और जो 'तथा' शब्द हैं, वे उन विभाव आदि के ऊहन (अनुमान से जान लेने) के लिए हैं जो श्लोक में नहीं कहे गए। इस प्रकार यथायोग्य जोड़ लेना चाहिए।
