L1definition
eka-deśa-vilokena prāptiḥ śeṣābhiyojanam ||
eka-deśa-vilokenaby showing only one portion of the matter — you let just a single part be seen instrumental of means: eka-deśa 'a single portion, one part' + viloka 'observing, letting be seen'; this is the device that produces the ornamentकिसी एक अंश को दिखा देने के द्वारा — यही वह उपाय है जिससे यह अलंकार बनता है
prāptiḥis what is called prāpti ('the reaching, the drawing-in') — the term now being defined nominative; the definiendum, the ornament being named‘प्राप्ति’ नामक अलंकार (जिसका यहाँ लक्षण किया जा रहा है)
śeṣābhiyojanamnamely the drawing-in of the remainder — the rest of the sense gets joined on and supplied by the listener nominative neuter predicate (the definiens): śeṣa 'the remainder, what is left over' + abhiyojana 'joining on, adducing, bringing in'शेष बचे हुए (पूरे) अभिप्राय का जोड़ दिया जाना — यही उसका लक्षण है
prāptiḥ [nāma] — the ornament named prāpti; eka-deśa-vilokena — where, by letting just one portion be seen; śeṣa-abhiyojanam — the remainder is drawn in and joined on.
This defines the ornament called prāpti, 'the reaching' or 'the drawing-in'. You show only one portion of the matter (eka-deśa) — you let a single part be seen. From that glimpse the whole rest of the sense is joined on and supplied (śeṣābhiyojana), so the listener reaches the full point on their own. In short: prāpti is disclosing one part so that the remainder gets adduced.
prāpti is one of the thirty-six bhūṣaṇas (ornaments of stage-speech) whose list is given at nc.8.20 (v020); it follows hetu (nc.8.25) and precedes udāharaṇa (nc.8.29). Literally 'reaching, attainment.' As an ornament it names the move where letting a single portion be seen (eka-deśa-viloka) makes the whole remaining conclusion get joined on (śeṣābhiyojana). It is illustrated just after, at nc.8.28 (Lalita-Mādhava 9.17), and explained at nc.8.29: from seeing one portion — Rādhā's longing for initiation into the beauty of eyes — the special sense 'she has been wholly won by you' is adduced, and that adducing is the prāpti.
eka-deśa-vilokena śeṣa-abhiyojanam [yat, saḥ] prāptiḥ [nāma bhūṣaṇam].
When, by letting just one portion of the matter be seen (eka-deśa-viloka), the whole remaining sense is thereupon joined on and supplied (śeṣābhiyojana), that is the ornament called prāpti, 'the drawing-in' — a single glimpse from which the listener reaches the full point on their own.
The lakṣaṇa (defining kārikā) of prāpti, one of the thirty-six bhūṣaṇas of stage-speech listed at nc.8.20 — defining it as disclosing one part so that the remainder gets adduced; illustrated next at nc.8.28.
