L1definition
vyavasāyas tu sāmarthyasyākhyāpanam udīryate ||
vyavasāyaḥvyavasāya — the limb now being definedव्यवसाय (सन्धि का एक अङ्ग, जिसका लक्षण अब कहा जा रहा है)
tunow, turning to the next limb tu marks the shift from the preceding aṅga (chalana) to this oneपरन्तु — पूर्व अङ्ग (छलन) से हटकर अब इस अङ्ग की ओर
sāmarthyasyaof one's own capability, of the power to get the job done genitive — what gets announced, object of ākhyāpanaअपने सामर्थ्य का, जिसकी घोषणा की जाती है
udīryateis said to be, is declared passive — the standard 'X is defined as Y' formulaकहा जाता है, ऐसा लक्षण किया जाता है
vyavasāyaḥ — vyavasāya; tu — now, as for the next limb; sāmarthyasya — of one's own capability; ākhyāpanam — the declaring; udīryate — is said to be.
Now the next limb: vyavasāya. It is defined as the declaring of one's own capability — a character openly announcing that he has the power to accomplish the task at hand. The 'tu' just moves us on from the limb defined before (chalana). The passive 'udīryate' is the treatise's standard way of stating a definition.
vyavasāya is one of the sandhy-aṅgas (the limbs that make up a dramatic juncture); here it is fixed as a character's open declaration of his own power (sāmarthya) to carry out what needs doing. The illustration quoted in the lead-in (Kṛṣṇa's speech from the eighth act) belongs to the preceding limb, chalana, and not to this definition.
vyavasāyaḥ tu sāmarthyasya ākhyāpanam (iti) udīryate.
Vyavasāya, on the other hand, is declared to be the open announcing of one's own capability — the moment a character proclaims aloud that he has the power to bring off the task in hand.
A definition kārikā that fixes the sandhy-aṅga vyavasāya as a character's open declaration of his own sāmarthya (capability) to accomplish the task; the tu shifts from the preceding limb, chalana.
