nikhilā śikhini nayann api sukhāni jātyāsitāpāṅgī |
nikhilāall — reads across the line with sukhāni, 'all joys'; hyperbaton for the metreसमस्त / सारे — (पंक्ति के पार 'सुखानि' के साथ पढ़ा जाता है) सारे सुख
śikhinito the peacock loc. as the goal; peacocks dance for joy at a rain-cloud — the cloud side of the śleṣaमोर के प्रति / मोर में (सप्तमी, लक्ष्य) — मेघ को देखकर मोर हर्ष से नाचते हैं, यही मेघपक्ष का श्लेष
nayann apithough he brings [them] pres. part. with subject Kṛṣṇa; api = 'even though', setting up the contrast answered by eva in L2पहुँचाता हुआ भी (वर्तमान कृदन्त, कर्ता कृष्ण; अपि = यद्यपि, जिसका उत्तर L2 के 'एव' से मिलता है)
sukhāniall the joys [there are] neut. pl., object of 'brings'सुखों को (नपुंसक बहुवचन, 'पहुँचाना' का कर्म)
jātyāsitāpāṅgīshe whose sidelong glances are dark by nature jātyā 'by birth' + asita 'dark' + apāṅga 'outer eye-corner, sidelong glance'; describes the beloved, picked up as object in L2 — her darkness echoes the dark cloudजन्म से जिसके कटाक्ष श्याम हैं वह प्रिया (जात्या = जन्म से + असित = श्याम + अपाङ्ग = कटाक्ष); उसकी श्यामलता श्याम मेघ की प्रतिध्वनि है
nayann api — though he brings; nikhilā sukhāni — all the joys there are; śikhini — to the peacock; jātyāsitāpāṅgī — she whose sidelong glances are dark by nature
Kṛṣṇa is a dense dark rain-cloud. A cloud brings the peacock every joy it has — and so could he bring joy to all. Here too is one whose sidelong glances are dark by nature, dark as that very cloud.
An udāharaṇa of mārga — the sandhy-aṅga defined in kārikā 82 (nc.6.56) as tattvārtha-kathanam, 'the telling of the true meaning.' Quoted from act 5 of the same play as the preceding illustration (ref 5.10): Kṛṣṇa, having had a letter read aloud, speaks out the real truth of his heart, and that frank disclosure is the mārga. It is set against the abhūtāharaṇa (deceptive speech) illustrated just before. The verse turns on a śleṣa: Kṛṣṇa is a su-ghana, a 'dense dark cloud' (kṛṣṇa itself = dark, cloud-coloured), and the imagery of peacock and darkness belongs to that cloud reading.

But Kṛṣṇa, this dense dark cloud, gives his own delight to one set alone — the women who carry the scent of Vṛndāvana, the gopīs. Joy he may bring to all; his heart's delight is theirs only. That, spoken plainly after the letter, is the true state of things — the mārga.

Kṛṣṇa is a dense dark rain-cloud; and though such a cloud brings the peacock its every joy — setting it dancing at the sight of him — this cloud gives his own heart's delight to one set alone: the women whose sidelong glances are dark by nature, dark as that very cloud, the women who carry the fragrance of Vṛndāvana — the gopīs, and no others.
