The moment Mukunda stepped into the arena, every kind of onlooker was swept to a different state — one verb, 'yayuḥ' (they went to), holds the whole roll-call together at the end. The demons' teacher: his face twisted with loathing. The champion wrestlers: their eyes blazed red with hostility. His own comrades:
An udāharaṇa of varṇa-saṁhāra, 'the assembling of assorted classes [of people]' — the sandhy-aṅga defined in the preceding kārikā (nc.6.50, kārikā 77): savarṇopagamanaṁ varṇa-saṁhāra iṣyate. The scene gathers every type of spectator — enemy teacher, wrestlers, friends, villains, sages, the mother, warriors, gods, servants, women — and each is carried to the reaction proper to its own bhāva, so that a single object (Mukunda in the arena) yields the whole spread of moods at once. The construction is patterned on the well-known Bhāgavata 10.43.17 verse (mallānām aśanir nṛṇāṁ nara-varaḥ…), where the same crowd sees Kṛṣṇa each in its own way. Quoted from the fourth act (4.4) of the same play cited just before.

The warriors thrilled till their hair stood on end. And the chiefs of the gods felt, deep inside, some fresh wonder no words could name.
The reactions are deliberately rasa-sorted: the wrestlers' red eyes and the villains' ruin belong to fury and its aftermath, the comrades' grins and the women's glances (L4) to love, the mother's tears to tender affection, the warriors' bristling thrill to the heroic, and the gods' speechless astonishment to the marvellous (adbhuta) — the one arena holding all the moods together.

The servants broke into dance. And the dark-eyed women fell to casting sidelong glances of love. All of them — having beheld Mukunda in the wrestling arena — were each swept to their own state. This is varṇa-saṁhāra: one figure entering the ring, and every class of onlooker gathered there set aglow with the mood proper to itself.
