This kārikā simply names the thirteen limbs of the pratimukha-sandhi in order; each is defined in the verses that follow. The first is vilāsa, activity aimed at union. The second is parisarpa, recalling the love-seed after it had seemed lost. The third is vidhuta, the grief of not gaining what one wants. The dual word gives two at once: śama, the calming of discontent, and narma, playful jesting speech.
यहाँ प्रतिमुख-सन्धि के अंगों की गणना आरम्भ होती है। पहले विलास, फिर परिसर्प, फिर विधुत, और शम तथा नर्म।
An enumeration (uddeśa) of the thirteen aṅgas of the pratimukha-sandhi, whose count was fixed at 6.25 (aṅgāny asya trayodaśa). Each limb is then defined in turn from 6.28 onward, and the plain senses given here are drawn from those very definitions in the treatise.

The list continues. Sixth is narma-dyuti, the flush of pleasure that the jesting sparks. Seventh is pragamana, the back-and-forth of one line capping another. Eighth is virodha, the turn where trouble sets in. Ninth is paryupāsana, winning back someone who has become angry.

The last four. Tenth is puṣpa, a choice and pointed turn of speech. Eleventh is vajra, plain harsh words spoken straight to someone's face. Twelfth is upanyāsa, a case put forward with its supporting reasons. Thirteenth is varṇa-saṁhāra, the coming-together of people of different ranks. The closing iti api seals the count at thirteen.
