tat tu — now that subject-matter; punaḥ dvividham syāt — is, further, of two kinds; pradhānam aṅgam iti ca — namely 'the principal' (pradhāna) and 'the subordinate' (aṅga).
Now Rūpa divides the subject-matter of the play. It comes in two kinds. One is the pradhāna, the principal or main plot. The other is the aṅga, the subordinate plot — literally a 'limb,' a subsidiary part hanging on the main one. The next line defines the first of these two.
This is the standard nāṭya-śāstra division of the itivṛtta (plot). The pradhāna answers to the older dramatists' ādhikārika vastu (the principal plot, belonging to the chief hero); the aṅga answers to their prāsaṅgika vastu (the episodic or incidental plot that only assists it). Rūpa keeps the two names pradhāna and aṅga throughout.

pradhānaṁ netṛ-caritaṁ vyāpi kṛṣṇasya ceṣṭitam ||
pradhānamthe principal plot (pradhāna) — the one just namedप्रधान कथावस्तु

vyāpipervading the whole play — running through it from start to finish nom. neut. (vyāpin), predicated of the principal plot; this is its defining markव्यापी (सम्पूर्ण नाटक में फैली रहने वाली—यही इसका लक्षण है)
kṛṣṇasyaof Kṛṣṇa — whoseकृष्ण का
ceṣṭitamactivity — that is, Kṛṣṇa's own doingsचेष्टित (लीला, कर्म)
pradhānam — the principal plot; netṛ-caritam — is the hero's conduct; vyāpi — pervading the whole play; kṛṣṇasya ceṣṭitam — [namely] Kṛṣṇa's activity.
The principal plot is the hero's conduct — the deeds of the leading character. Its mark is that it pervades the whole play, running through every act from beginning to end. And in these Vaiṣṇava dramas the hero is Kṛṣṇa himself, so the main plot is simply Kṛṣṇa's activity — his doings are what the whole play is built around.
vyāpi (pervading) is the working test of the principal plot: it is present throughout, whereas the aṅga (subordinate plot) touches only a part. This matches the older dramaturgists' ādhikārika vastu, called vyāpaka, 'all-pervading,' and belonging to the adhikārin, the chief hero. Here that hero is Kṛṣṇa, so netṛ-carita and kṛṣṇasya ceṣṭitam name the same thing.
tat tu [vastu] punaḥ dvividhaṁ syāt — pradhānam aṅgam iti ca; [tatra] pradhānaṁ vyāpi netṛ-caritaṁ [yat] kṛṣṇasya ceṣṭitam.
tat (vastu) tu punaḥ dvividham syāt — pradhānam aṅgam iti ca (te dve nāmnī); tatra pradhānam netṛ-caritam, yat vyāpi (bhavati); atra tu tat kṛṣṇasya ceṣṭitam।
The subject-matter of the play is, in turn, of two kinds — called the pradhāna (the principal plot) and the aṅga (the subordinate plot). Of these, the pradhāna is the hero's conduct that pervades the whole play from start to finish; and since the hero here is Kṛṣṇa, the principal plot is simply Kṛṣṇa's activity.
A definition kārikā: it splits the plot (vastu) into pradhāna and aṅga, then defines the pradhāna by its mark of pervading the whole play — here the netṛ-carita, which is Kṛṣṇa's own activity.
