itthaṁ śarat-prāvṛṣikāv ṛtū harer
itthaṁin this way, as just described (looking back to how he served and heard the sages) adverb, resumptiveइस प्रकार (जैसा अभी कहा गया)
śarat-prāvṛṣikau ṛtūthrough the two seasons, autumn and the rains acc. dual, span of timeशरद् और वर्षा — इन दोनों ऋतुओं में
hareḥof Hari — his (glory), i.e. the glory belonging to Hari gen., goes with yaśaḥ in L2हरि का (यश), जिसे आगे यश से जोड़ना है
itthaṁ — in this way; śarat-prāvṛṣikau ṛtū — through the two seasons of autumn and the rains; hareḥ — Hari's (glory)
This is Nārada telling Vyāsa how devotion first came to him. He says: in this way, right through the two seasons of autumn and the rainy months, I kept hearing Hari's glory. The word 'Hari's' hangs on the 'glory' that comes in the next line.
Why cited: Cited (Bhāg. 1.5.28) as Nārada's account of how bhakti awoke in him through hearing Hari's glories across the seasons.
ṛtu: in Sanskrit calendrics the year has six two-month seasons; here two of them, the rains and autumn, name the whole long stretch over which he listened.

viśṛṇvato me’nusavaṁ yaśo’malam |
viśṛṇvataḥ meas I went on listening closely — 'of me, listening' gen. pres. participle agreeing with me; genitive absolute sense, 'while I…'
anusavamagain and again, at every turn, without a break adverb (lit. 'at each pressing/juncture')प्रत्येक अवसर पर, बार-बार
yaśaḥ amalamthat spotless glory — the fame with no stain in it acc. sg., object heard; amala = without mala, 'flawless'(उस) निर्मल, निष्कलंक यश को
me viśṛṇvataḥ — while I listened closely; anusavam — again and again; hareḥ yaśaḥ amalam — to Hari's spotless glory
As I listened closely, over and over, without a break, I heard Hari's spotless glory. 'Spotless' means fame with no stain in it. This is what Hari's (from the line before) points to: his glory.
Why cited: Continues the quoted verse: names the object of hearing — Hari's spotless glory, heard by Nārada again and again.
anusavam: literally 'at each savana', the pressings of soma in the daily fire-rite; used here just to mean 'at every juncture, again and again'.

saṅkīrtyamānaṁ munibhir mahātmabhir
saṅkīrtyamānamas it was being sung out in full, glorified aloud pres. passive participle, acc., agreeing with yaśaḥ(उस यश को) जिसका भली-भाँति कीर्तन हो रहा था
munibhiḥ mahātmabhiḥby the sages, the great souls — by realized seers, not ordinary reciters instr. pl., agent of the singingमहात्मा मुनियों के द्वारा
yaśaḥ saṅkīrtyamānam — the glory being sung aloud; munibhiḥ mahātmabhiḥ — by the great-souled sages
And that glory was being sung aloud, fully glorified, by the sages, the great souls. So Nārada is not hearing it from just anyone. He hears it from realized seers. This line tells us the source of the hearing.
Why cited: Names who was singing that glory — the great-souled sages — establishing the hearing as coming from pure, realized mouths.
mahātman: 'great-souled'; here it marks the singers as spiritually realized, so the sound carries their purity, not merely the words.

bhaktiḥ pravṛttātma rajas-tamopahā ||
bhaktiḥdevotion — bhakti itself, which is the thing that then arose in me nom. sg. fem., the subject that appearsभक्ति (जो प्रकट हुई)
pravṛtta-ātmācame alive within me — its own being sprang up and started working (in the heart) bahuvrīhi agreeing with bhaktiḥ: 'she whose self/nature has set in motion'जिसका स्वरूप जाग उठा, प्रवृत्त हो उठा
rajas-tama-upahāand it drove out passion and darkness — it carries off rajas and tamas bahuvrīhi agreeing with bhaktiḥ; upahā (√han) 'striking/carrying away'जो रजोगुण और तमोगुण को हर लेती, दूर कर देती है
bhaktiḥ — devotion; pravṛtta-ātmā — its own being sprang up and set to work; rajas-tama-upahā — driving out passion and darkness
Then bhakti itself arose. Nārada says its very being sprang up and began working inside him. And as it came, it drove out rajas and tamas, passion and darkness. So the point of the whole verse is this: from steady hearing of Hari's glory, sung by realized sages, devotion awakened on its own and cleared away the lower modes.
Why cited: The result-line: from that hearing, bhakti itself arose in Nārada and drove out passion and darkness — the point for which the whole verse is quoted.
rajas / tamas: two of the three guṇas (strands) of material nature — the restless mode (passion) and the dark, inert mode (ignorance); bhakti here is said to sweep both away.
